Selective compression

Selective compression is a technique used when making a scale model where the builder compresses key features of the prototype to fit in the space available while retaining the key elements of those features to keep them recognizable.

A common type of selective compression is when a single dimension is reduced (ie: a train car is made much shorter that would be to scale but the height and width remain to scale.) This is called compressionism.
