Category talk:Menu

Looking at the recent changes list I see a LOT of changes to articles and the only thing that shows up in diff is removal of some categories... I'm not sure what's going on here but it looks like BrickKeith sussed out how to do subcategories! ?? If it could be explained what is up on some talk page or another it would help.

How to do subcategories would also be a cool explanation. For example this category page says it has 8 subcategories! How was that done? IT's Cool! ++

If you click through the People and Software categories, you will see how the nested subcategories work. I followed Wikopedia instructions by moving the text off any page that would have subpages into a category page instead and referencing only the category I want it to autodisplay in. For instance, Jake McKee is in categories LEGO_Executives and Fans, NOT People. ++BricKeith
Jake's actually an employee, but not an executive per se (based on how one defines executives I guess) but I get the example, and it makes sense. I do think there are some cases where you want to keep a thing in both the parent AND subcategories but in other cases you don't. People presumably is going to be one of our larger supercategories as content grows, so some guideline on how to decide would be good, I guess.. People probably being one where we don't want to. I guess I need to think of a clear example where we do and if I can't than maybe I'm wet in thinking we do. ++
This is actually exactly what I had in mind when I was talking about a Browse page of sorts. I had no idea that it could be made like this at all. Wow and thanks. --Venkatesh

New Category?

I've been working on writing articles for all the "broken links" currently in the Classic-Castle article and related articles, including articles on Bruce's BrickTales site and Tony's Kingdom Of Ikros site. Might it be possible to have a "Websites" category added here? I know the current websites listed (LUGNET, Classic-Castle, etc) are Fan Groups, but sites such as BrickTales are not. Right now, personal LEGO Fan sites really don't fit into a catagory at BrickWiki. Thanks -- Lord Of The LEGO

Good point... bring it up on BrickWiki_talk:conventions and lets thrash it around because it does seem to need to be a category, doesn't it? Normally I'd say, go forth and do it... but Category creation is one place where the Wikipedia:Be Bold advice shouldn't be taken as strongly, reorganising cats that weren't a good idea can be a bit of work. ++Lar
