What it is is beautiful
What it is is beautiful was a project and associated website created by grade four and five students at Shorewood Hills Elementary School in Madison, WI in 2014. The Project was inspired by an advertisement created in 1981 of the same name.
The project examined diversity through the statistical analysis of gender and culture as represented by minifigures. The students wrote letters to LEGO based on their findings asking for improvements to representation of females and people of non-european ancestry.
