Hi Tim and welcome! This is just one user saying hello, but it's great that you're here! There's lots to do so pitch in wherever you are interested.. If you're a wikinovice there are lots of good resources on Wikipedia that you should find helpful. I refer to the How to Edit a Page page a lot... Things here are rather more informal than there though, so don't be intimidated. If you need help, try looking at the source of a page, or just ask (on a User Talk page or on the Talk page of what you're working on)... Be Bold! We're all learning too so don't take what's here as gospel... Again, welcome! Lar 20 July 2005 12:02 (Eastern Daylight Time)

Hi Lar, Thanks for the welcome. Although I don't know much about wiki's I took your exhortations on Lugnet seriously and began fiddling already. Tim 20 July 2005

Hi everyone, just admitting to the fact that I am finding this wiki-editing quite addictive. Perhaps I never should have started... --Tim 20 July 2005 15:08 (Eastern Daylight Time)

Personal blurbs like the above can (should?) go on your main user page User:Timgould, talk on user pages is more like public email (I think...) than more permanent stuff. (wikiquette at Wikipedia is that modifying a user's page isn't very polite, let them do it, but modifying their user talk page is fine... of course we can develop whatever standards we want!!!) And ya, it is addictive, isn't it... I should be working! Lar 20 July 2005 15:32 (Eastern Daylight Time)
Thanks for that info Lar. I'm leaving it up to a) remind me to be more careful about ettiquette and b) remind me that I am not the only addict. --Tim 20 July 2005 16:34 (Eastern Daylight Time)

Hi Tim, I sometimes forget to logged in as editing is possible when logged out...but I'll try to make an effort. :-)

That was me at 84.17 etc.

hehe... look into autologging if you're comfy with security aspects of that. Lar 21 July 2005 12:24 (Eastern Daylight Time)

Capitalisation of page names

OK, what is the convention? Windows makes it much simpler! :P 195.152.136.101 11:16, September 13, 2005 (Eastern Daylight Time)

Well you already answered my question, and I forgot that my cookies had somehow got deleted on this PC. All's well that ends well.Talltim 11:27, September 13, 2005 (Eastern Daylight Time)

No Brick or Plate Pages?

Was it a concious decision on someones part not to have pages for brick and plate? Talltim 11:27, September 13, 2005 (Eastern Daylight Time)

train terms

Yes. The glossaries and FAQs linked from the trains header are good places to start. Doing an article for each term might be tiresome. This would be a good stopgap and articles could spawn off as needed. Coupler for instance probably in the medium term deserves an article (due to the kadee investigation underway, automated decouplers, etc) but in the short term a glossary entry is better than nothing. The glossary shold ALSO tie to the wikipedia:Railroad terms page (or wahtever it's called...) Lar 14:45, September 20, 2005 (Eastern Daylight Time)

External Imagesq

that sandbox stuff you archived maybe should be cleaned up and put in the helps? I dunno if the external image embed stuff should be made well known or not, if not, then maybe not. MW's handling of links is weird. Lar 19:36, September 20, 2005 (Eastern Daylight Time)

Nice "brack"

er... hack. Lar 15:10, September 23, 2005 (Eastern Daylight Time)

"you can fine me"

From your user page: "You can fine me at tgould.lego(A@T)gmail.com" ... OK, I fine you one pound sterling for saying fine when you meant find. LOL Lar 23:48, September 25, 2005 (Eastern Daylight Time)

Template "variables"

scope this out when you get a chance: (from Meta) http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Template_names,_variable_names_and_parameters_depending_on_a_variable_or_parameter

Image suggestions

  • a stop sign would be a good thing... probably put it in deleteme. But do you lot HAVE stop signs? I forget.
  • some sort of warning or caution would be nice.
  • change the under construction image to include a minifig leaning on a shovel...

LOST PAGES

Hi all, just did a massive tidy of uncategorised pages. Tim 09:28, 29 September 2005 (Eastern Daylight Time)

Windows

is worth saving. I can see an article there talking about the lego parts, glass or not, the changes in windows over the years, etc... Lar 12:00, September 29, 2005 (Eastern Daylight Time)

tidyup

many of your deleted pages are showing newpage in triple braces in the delete template box, is that intentional? you can always set NewPage="not moved" or something similar... Lar 16:11, September 29, 2005 (Eastern Daylight Time)

Let's do a cleanup tag then, what you did was good but you only did half the job... not to fault your effort, it was better, but maybe doing half of them and figuring out what was needed was a better way to go... dunno. Lar 18:37, September 29, 2005 (Eastern Daylight Time)
I don't want to fight about this, but deletion is permanent. At least one of the articles that BrickKeith tagged for deletion was on a topic worthy of having an article for, and it got converted into a stub. The delete tag in those articles now gives us a list of things to look at to see if they are worth rescuing but I guess my point is just because one user long ago thought they should be deleted doesn't mean they shoiuld have been, and if you can't think of what their content got moved to, maybe they're not really deletion candidates. Wpedia is more methodical, and maybe too methodical, about deletion. So, again, maybe a cleanup tag is the way to go to collect stuff together. If we had more users, we could try to get some projects going to get things done but most of the edits come from you and me, still, so if we do not see eye to eye on something (and this is the first even remotely important thing we've not, all just in fun sparring about fun stuff like spelling aside), it means step back and think, at least to me. That's all I'm saying. Hope that helps. Lar 21:54, September 29, 2005 (Eastern Daylight Time)

Redirects

Is there a simple way of creating redirect pages, e.g. Railway Station directs you to Train Stations? Talltim 10:39, October 6, 2005 (Eastern Daylight Time)

Re: Tables

Thanks, Tim. I'm really going blind - I was trying to do the tables with pipes, but was using '(' instead of '{'.

2000 edits

Wow! I'm having a wiki party on my talk page as I've just surpassed 2000 edits today. Thanks to everyone for making such a fun site. Tim 16:33, 19 October 2005 (Eastern Daylight Time)

That just gave me an idea... how about a page to enshrine those users who cross the marks of either 3000 edits and recognize those with other inordinate numbers of edits =)? Remember, 2000 edits and this site launched on June 25th. Thats many, many edits per day. --Venkatesh 16:38:16, 2005-10-19 (Eastern Daylight Time)
I didn't start editing until July IIRC so it's far too high. It's about 20 edits a day on average. Bad me! I'm not sure about enshrining, it may put people off editing if they see that. Then again it is a nice reward. A tailored star for the user page might work. Tim 16:46, 19 October 2005 (Eastern Daylight Time)
I am pretty busy, new client... but if anyone wants the ldraw file for the star I did, drop me a line. BTW, congrats Tim and nice work!!!! Very well done. Lar 18:49, October 19, 2005 (Eastern Daylight Time)
Hi Lar, if you could email it to me I'll fiddle around with it. Maybe make a 1000, a 5000 version and a 10,000 version (nice numbers I think) Tim 19:26, 19 October 2005 (Eastern Daylight Time)
I had actually chosen the 3000 to be a parody on the baseball record of 3000 hits (and i was thinking of making a record for 500 majority-edit articles too). No better reason behind it than that. But imagine what 10,000 records means... Assume an average time of 4 seconds to submit a change. You will have spent over 11 hours waiting for Brickwiki to acknowledge your updates... Wow. --Venkatesh 19:32:26, 2005-10-19 (Eastern Daylight Time)
3000 it is then. I'm not at all familiar with baseball so I missed the reference. Tim 19:56, 19 October 2005 (Eastern Daylight Time)

Mini Barnstar notice and image

Thanks! I like the mini-editions a lot. --Venkatesh 00:01:07, 2005-11-20 (Eastern Standard Time)

Congrats!

Congrats (or maybe thanks in advance, or perhaps condolences?) on your sysophood... Lar 13:45, December 8, 2005 (Eastern Standard Time)

Thanks but condolences is more like it. At least it means I can cover European time (which seems to be when the majority of vandalsim occurs whether I notice it or not). A pity that it is neccesary really :( Tim 16:16, 8 December 2005 (Eastern Standard Time)
Well I figured it was time for another award... so there you go. Lar 20:56, December 12, 2005 (Eastern Standard Time)

Block requests

Moved to BrickWiki:Block requests

getting a bit more organised against vandalism

We may want to consider bringing over some of the templates that Wikipedia uses... Wikipedia:Vandalism discusses several warning ones, and there is also a vandal report template that gives nice links to all the key things you want to know wikipedia:template:vandal which maybe is worth copying too? Lar 10:14, December 24, 2005 (Eastern Standard Time)

Amusing vandals

You seem like a good admin. Have fun dealing with people like me. The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.96.96.58 (talk • contribs) 21:33, February 28, 2006 .

I always have fun dealing with people like you. Pathetic people are funny. Read this to understand why you are pathetic. Tim 19:41, 22 June 2007 (EDT)
And I just realised you must be doing these edits by hand. Hahahaha learn to write perl or something. Tim 20:40, 22 June 2007 (EDT)

List of shock sites

Someone has put this up for deletion yet again. Care to cast your vote? 86.128.217.21 06:41, April 15, 2006 (Eastern Daylight Time)

Voted. Thanks Tim 11:13, 15 April 2006 (Eastern Daylight Time)

I

Fixed extra i - thanks for the alert

MediaWiki:Newarticletext

LOL. Oh no you left the article as a Cyclops (you still need to remove one more "i") Also you can Delete the 2 other articles that keep getting miss linked. Remember to Use the preview Button and to click on the link into a new tab or window to make sure it is right. I had made a redirect to temporarily fix the problem but you linked to the other wrong page. Third times the charm

Also What about a section recommending looking Through Wikipedia to see if the article is already written and just copying the text because it seems wasteful to restart the article from scratch when Wikipedia has several articles that need to be moved hear wikipedia:Category:LEGO--Yskyflyer 17:59, May 2, 2006 (Eastern Daylight Time)

Question on Welcoming

Is there a way to find out what new people have joined the BrickWiki?

Hi!

Hey Tim! I noticed you were on and I thought I'd say hi. Thanks for correcting my little cleanup template problem. I should have asked you about it in the first place. --Merond e 08:29, July 19, 2006 (Eastern Daylight Time)

Cleaning

On July 25, 2006 at 12:57(Eastern Daylight Time), Tim said, "Thanks for doing some cleaning around the place :)"

Your welcome. :) Just thought I'd help out. --Merond e 08:05, August 8, 2006 (Eastern Daylight Time)

More spammers

Hi Timbo, I just reverted some link spam on Talk:Main_Page, you might wanna indef block Special:Contributions/66.139.76.17. ROSCO 00:52, November 17, 2006 (Eastern Standard Time)

Reverted it twice more in 24h (3 spammers), maybe we should only allow logged in users to update this page, can we do that? ROSCO 15:45, November 18, 2006 (Eastern Standard Time)

Help on spamblocker on the pirates glossary

Hello Tim, You probably don't know me, but I've been doing a lot of work behind the scenes on the pirates glossary. There is one problem that you may be able to help me with. I am forced to spell grap_eshot with that stupid underscore, because the spamblocker rejects the word component rap_e! Can you help me? It would be a real asset to the community if you could. (NB my initial post to your talk page was also rejected because of the 'r' word.) (On reflection, given the context of pirates, the 'r' word should possibly be allowed. But mostly I'd just like to get grap_shot right, for the moment). Thank you for your consideration of my request.Claude Bombarde 00:37, 29 January 2007 (EST)

Duplicate page

Help! I was trying to edit Classic Castle City Standard and somehow seem to have created a second page under the same title? Tedward 19:00, 12 February 2007 (EST)

Guidance needed

Thanks Tim! I seem to have created a duplicate as you suggest with incompatible capitalization (I don't know how since I never added new title to the article but was editing it. Anyway, which is correct: Classsic Castle City standard or Classic Castle City Standard?

Oh, I also wonder why I cannot reference a Category Page in the article. I want to use the text modular building standards and refer to the Modular building standards page. Is this possible or do I need to create a new Modular Building Standards article?

plus signs

I created a page that contains plus signs but not my sig, I want to see if it gets changed eventually... I'm not sure if this is a vandal targeting me specificially, or a malformed bot, like the & deleting spambot... What do you think? ++Lar: t/c 10:47, 10 June 2007 (EDT)

I'd just thought it was targeting you at first but then it appeared to delete some +s from another page without your name so I'm not so sure. Let's see what happens to your inviting ++page (and this one now). I am getting mighty fed up with fixing it. Tim 11:14, 10 June 2007 (EDT)
Dunno which is worse to me personally, some idle person targeting me personally, or a malfed bot. :) Perhaps it's time to turn captcha back on for anons??? ++Lar: t/c 23:14, 10 June 2007 (EDT)
It's almost certainly a bot (it stripped a ++ from something other than your name again yesterday). Whether it's malfed or not is another matter entirely... some people seem to think that messing with wikis is 'hacking'. I'll tell V to switch the captcha's back on not least because I'm sick of reverting and banning. Tim 07:55, 11 June 2007 (EDT)

there are more things to rollback

you got some but there are stwill more. ++Lar (who can't stay logged in for beans)

Thankyou!

Thankyou for deleting the recent vandalism.Claude Bombarde 22:22, 8 January 2009 (EST)
