Welcome to BrickWiki! Thank you for your support, both directly and indirectly. --Astronouth7303 15:02, 25 Jun 2005 (Eastern Daylight Time)

Glad to be here but this is a daunting job... we need to get some thought into how things ought to be organized, and then seek volunteers as no one can do it by themselves. There's just too much! ++Lar 12:52, 26 Jun 2005 (Eastern Daylight Time)

Wikipedia template

The template's great! Just what I was looking for. I've made a minor change, check the talk page. Thanks for your kind and quick correspondence. I hope you're considering contributing to Wikipedia as well, (you may have a message next time you go there!) Cheers, Dmcdevit 17:45, 14 Jul 2005 (Eastern Daylight Time)

There isn't any way to to that that I know of (besides making two templates). So I guess what I would suggest is using the original and then if you have a case where you want a different name, just subst in the template and change the link. But I should say that having parameters for now isn't really much harder since even if it goes to the same title, all you'd have to do is copy and paste from the address bar the title. But, just some friendly advice, do with it what you will. Good luck with the project! Dmcdevit 18:09, 14 Jul 2005 (Eastern Daylight Time)

Bots

Hi Larry, I was looking up how to set up wikimedia bots (here [1]) and see that some APIs have been developed for Perl and Python. Unfortunately I can't program Python and I can't get the Perl modules to install on my XP machine (wish I had linux dual boot but thats a different story). You might want to have a look at that page in general. I'm happy to do any perl hacking for text manipulation etc. but don't really feel confident enough to deal with networky stuff. Let me know if this is useful. --Tim 23 July 2005 18:57 (Eastern Daylight Time)

--copied--

i think you' dhave to put that on his IP address talk page, he won't see YOUR note till he DOES log in. (grin) My recommendation is to stay always logged in unless you are worried about people using your machine to edit stuff in... not a big worry in my view... ++Lar 24 July 2005 12:15 (Eastern Daylight Time)
He should notice his name on the Recent Changes page. I try to permanently log in but it is IP based, not Cookie based so when I go offline and on again it doesn't recognise me.
are you sure it's IP based? I have been logged in for several weeks now across at least a dozen different IPs... as for seeing the stuff on recent changes that's assuming he's as geeky as you and I! (see Are you a Wikipediaholic? ) ++Lar
LOL. Too true! As for IP. Maybe it isn't but I don't remember being asked about Cookies ever (I'm running cookie asking Firefox) but maybe I accidentally put it in the This Session Only category. I'll have a look.
Looked, had, fixed, happy! Tim

The goal here is to get the colors to have a patch, have the color name be in the correct foreground color (using the ldlite.ini is a possible source of good foreground colors) and have the name be clickable to take us to a good place elsewhere for color references? LDraw perhaps? Todd's color thingie on LUGNET? Something that cross references all the names (peeron, BL, Ldraw, LEGO, Pantone) anyway.

Also something that can allow for variable numbers of colors is goodness.

The subthemes and supertheme if present should be clickable links to take you to the other themes.

PHP/Perl

Hi Lar, how similar is PHP to Perl? I've looked at it before and it seemed very similar (if a little more annoying and fiddly) but thought the easiest way to find out would be to ask someone who has used both. Cheers Tim 26 July 2005 10:49 (Eastern Daylight Time)

Thanks for the advice. I might check it out. I'm meant to be working and finishing off some coding for my sticker program but I just keep fiddling with wikis. Bad me. Tim 26 July 2005 11:07 (Eastern Daylight Time)

Rivet counter?

Hi Lar, just what is a Rivet Counter? I'm guessing it's US slang for railroad enthusiast (I hate that word). Should the link on the SFSC page be an internal or external? I only ask as I wouldn't want to change it if it should be internal. Tim 26 July 2005 16:26 (Eastern Daylight Time)

One should never be too hasty. Please delete section if you like. Tim 26 July 2005 16:29 (Eastern Daylight Time)
Beat your response by seconds :-) All is explained. PS. agree about spelling. My bad! Tim 26 July 2005 16:32 (Eastern Daylight Time)

Add a vote

Hi Lar, I suggest you add a little section with a 'frontpage version' and a voting option like I did for spelling (does that make sense?). If there are no responses by tomorrow I'll ask all the recently active members to vote. I think everyone has no more complaints and it has just been left but if we can 'officialize' that then we can put it up on the conventions page. Tim 26 July 2005 19:12 (Eastern Daylight Time) PS. I agree that the Capitalising is NOT agreed upon. But I think spelling is (although Astro disagreed with my proposal and then suggested we do like wiki, which is pretty much what I proposed so maybe I wasn't clear enough) and footnotes and Accessible images are hardly worth disagreeing with.

Frontpage version ??? Of what? not sure what you mean there. ++Lar 26 July 2005 20:30 (Eastern Daylight Time)
I meant write a blurb for footnotes which can be voted on (sorry was getting tired by then). The response was made straight after your request for mt to give props to the footnotes section but you then vanished (back to work I presume) so it lost that timing. Caprice? Tim 27 July 2005 03:24 (Eastern Daylight Time)
Roger, thanks. I will. Good idea! ++Lar 27 July 2005 07:04 (Eastern Daylight Time)

Era3

I think it looked better with the cell lines, the eye needs some help in associating, especially if the text is different sizes. True that the color does help but try at least horizontal lines between eras? Just a thought. ++Lar 27 July 2005 09:09 (Eastern Daylight Time)

To be perfectly honest, I would but I just hate HTML tables so much I can't be bothered to learn how. I think it is one of the worst HTML standards out there (less awful than frames to be fair). I know CSS revamped the system but I don't think we can use that. If you want to add lines, I won't be in the least offended though. Tim 27 July 2005 09:15 (Eastern Daylight Time)

Off to build?

Last I heard you were off to build eh? The purist article looks much better. I put it in after arguing with my NLSO about what things a purist can and can't do so I made sure she checked out your additions ;-) Tim 17:00, 31 July 2005 (Eastern Daylight Time) PS. That extension was more a template for Astro as I don't have access to his source code. Its probably not proper PHP as I just wrote Perl style.
