Characteristics

The color scheme of Space Police ships and stations are black and blue, with red transparent windshields and canopies. Minifigs are white/black Futuron torsos with white legs and black belts. Helmets are white with red visors. All Space Police models except Message Decoder (6831) include a detachable prison cell with a Blacktron prisoner. Space Police introduced the larger 'Windscreen 10 x 4 x 2 & 1/3 Canopy' (2507).

All three Space Police ship sets have similar cockpit designs--the lower hull and the windshield are separated by a roughly triangular form which extends beyond the windshield's edge in front and on both sides. The front of the Message Decoder is also reminiscent of this design.

Space Police II

The Space Police is the law enforcement agency in LEGO's space world. Primary opponents are the Blacktron II. Allies include M-Tron, Ice Planet 2002 and Unitron. They answer to something called the Galactic Council.[1]

Characteristics

The color scheme of Space Police ships and vehicles is black, red, and gray, with green transparent windshields and canopies. Minifigs are green/white with black hands and helmets. Visors are green. The three largest Space Police II models include detachable prison cells with a Blacktron II prisoner. Space Police II was the first Space theme to use decorated minifig heads with more than just the smiley face.

Like its predecessor, Space Police II used common design elements in the cockpits of vehicles. Smaller sets feature a black piece with the words "SPACE POLICE" on top of a gray wedge. Larger sets feature a gray single-piece hull and a green windshield separated by a thin black strip, flanked by a pair of red antennas pointed forward (believed to represent weaponry).

Space Police III

In 2009 a new series of space police sets was released featuring a variety of aliens never before seen utilizing new molds to produce non-human minifigs.

Controversy

Some fans pointed out that making the bad guys all aliens in opposition to the almost entirely human Space Police could be interpreted as racist, or more accurately, species-ist. While mostly tongue in cheek, this argument was reflective of a broader discussion of the removal of minifig vs minifig conflict across all lines with orcs, aliens and monsters replacing human factions as a source of conflict.
