A great ball contraption marble pump lifts balls by pushing up from the bottom of a stack of balls. Brian Davis notes it could be driven by a reciprocating piston which lowers a ball from the hopper and pushes it into the output stack above. Limited by the weight of the stack above the piston. The tube containing the stack must resist bursting due to column weight. The piston must have enough force to lift the entire column. Ideally would have a clear side to show pump mechanism. Requires priming, and draining ability (when hopper runs out, column above pump is inaccessible). Can function as a clocker. Davis Philippe "philo" Hurbain built an early one.
