Gauge refers to the size of a railway line based on the distance between the rails. Model railway gauges such as N and HO have been joined by L-Gauge' as LEGO Train Clubs or LTC's have participated seriously in large train shows.
Although not officially recognized by model train organizations, L-Gauge is widely known amongst hobbyists who see it usually in one of two ways - either as an opportunity to attract children into the overall hobby of model trains, or as an affront to their rivet counter sensibilities. With the participation of L-Gauge layouts in official NMRA shows at regional and national levels in the early 21st century the latter view appears to be a minority.
