I think we should make a strong statement that all personal data is collected for internal, administrative use only and all such data will not be sold, rented or otherwise transferred to any organization, government or person without explicit consent subject to legal requirements of the jurisdiction in which the server is located. That sounds good. Hate to be legalistic, but can we nuance it to give us a modicum of protection against being sued in the event of accidental disclosure? E.g. "such data will not be sold, rented or otherwise provided to...". Add to that a distinction that we will never sell/rest, but might transfer/provide with explicit consent for benign purposes (e.g. implementing OpenID signin). So perhaps "such data will not be sold or rented to any organization, government or person, nor will it be provided to such entities without explicit consent..." Ewww. Sounds too legal. Nevermind all that. How about "Personal data is collected for internal, administrative use only. We have no intention of doing anything else with it." --ALittleSlow 23:54, 4 June 2012 (CDT)
What about adopting the WMF policy? Not exactly, but be informed by it... Or how about mine? MTW policy ... again, not exactly but be informed by it. Let's not try to write one from scratch. But we probably need more than a one sentence one :) ++Lar: t/c 10:28, 5 June 2012 (CDT)
I kinda like Brian's short version but I can see it might not be enough. Tedward 10:33, 5 June 2012 (CDT)
